Sam, as he was known, was a graduate of Chapman Technical School. He served in Guadalcanal during World War II. Sam worked at Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut, for over 40 years. He was a pipefitter and worked in the nuclear pipe inspection department. He worked on the first nuclear submarine, the Nautilus.2
