Biography

Maude (nee Bush) Gazlay, granddaughter of John H. Latimer and his wife Esther (nee Wood) Latimer, understood that Esther was the daughter of James Wood and Elizabeth (nee Van Etten) Wood. Maude indicated that he is the James Wood who is buried in the cemetery behind the Rochester Reformed Church, Accord, New York.

Support for James being Esther’s father is found in a probate record for James, that names ten children as follows: Simon D. Wood, Abram R. Wood, Benjamin Wood, Lydia Hardenburgh, Melinda Evans, Sarah H. Osterhoudt, Effie Osterhoudt, Catharine A. Baker, Ellen W. Osterhoudt, and Esther Latimer.7
